Unfortunately, it ain't quite that simple.  What you would have to do is
get five engines and run each for about 100,000 miles with a different type
of oil and see which oil leads to long term accumulation of sludge.  A test
beyond the means and attention span of any one on this list, I would think.

Most folks here use either Castrol or synthetics anyway, I'll bet.
