Hi Noah,

I too have little clearance under my car for my jack and used to find
myself going front to back screwing around with trying to find an easy
jack point.  I have both a large heavy duty jack and the small one you
described.  I use the small one for the junk yard runs but prefer the
larger jack in the garage.  I built four small ramps from scrap 2x6.  I
think the bottom is 24", next is 16", last is 10" then one 6" vertically
so you don't drive off the end.  First put a 45 degree or more cut on one
end of each.  Put a handle on the end so they are easy to move around the
garage.  Once I drive up on the ramps I put a length of 2x6 the width of
the frame on the jack saddle to straddle the frame.  I now have both
wheels off the ground, jack stands on the frame and no pressure on the
diff....much easier.

I was having the same jack clearance problems described, so I went to
sears just over the weekend...they had 2.25 ton jacks that had about 4"
min height, for $30...so I bought one.  It just barely fits under the
front end of my slightly lower than stock TR4...basically, since these
cars are so light (1 ton), they dont need the bigger jacks, so you can
a) get cheaper ones b) find ones with lower min heights.

Id be happy to send a model #, etc if people need to find what I have...
