Hi Hugh,
I just made one of those the other day for the neighbor kid. The tool is
simply a rod with a slot sawed in one end to slip over the top end of the
oil pump shaft. The end of the rod should resemble the end of the
distributor/oil pump drive gear shaft. The rod is inserted from the top
after the distributor and drive gear are removed. The rod should be long
enough to stick out so that an electric drill can be attached to the top end
to spin it. As I recall I used a ~ 12 inch length 1/2 inch steel rod. Used
a hack saw to cut the slot in one end and turned part of the other end down
to fit in a 3/8 portable drill chuck. Better material choices are probably
aluminum or nylon to avoid scratching the oil pump drive bush. We greased
the outside of the steel one described here.
