Hi Larry
In actual fact they had front wheel drive in the 60's with the aptly named
1300 FWD, it had an inline engine with the gearbox under the rear of the
engine and the final drive under the front of the engine. It worked well on
the whole but did have an Achilles heel, in that the input shaft from the
clutch to the gearbox is a bit spindly. they drive nice though as they have
equal length driveshafts so no torque steer!
