If you don't already know, then most likely you don't want to know !

Triumph cooling systems in general were perhaps adequate for Britain and the
continent's very moderate climate and relaxed driving habits. However, as
the cars age, the demands on the cooling system tend to go up while the
cooling capacity tends to go down ... plus they were marginal to begin with
(IMO) for warm climates (like SoCA) and today's traffic patterns.

So, adding an electric radiator fan is a popular modification, especially
for those of us in hot climates (hit 102F here a few days ago, supposed to
be over 90F today) to control radiator temps while idling or in stop and go
traffic. They don't help much over 30 mph (can even hurt, due to impeding
air flow at speed). Some people just add an electric fan as a 'helper',
others (like myself) remove the original fan entirely. This may also help
power & gas mileage just a touch, since the fan draws no power when it is
not running (and it shouldn't run most of the time).
