Charles,
I found it was easiest to access the nuts in their cages with the fenders off.
If you start by removing the front bumper, then the apron, you will then be 
able to remove the fenders and the splash guards whereupon you will gain a 
degree of access to the nuts on the A post. On my own car I then alternated 
soaking the nuts with penetrating oil for several days with heating them 
with a propane torch. In the end all but one came out. For the last one, I 
drilled through its centre from the door side, and used and easy out tool - 
one of the few times I had any success with one of these.
If you take this approach,it's a great opportunity to re-ore your rad!
