If the tie rod was attached to the wheel, the wheel wouldn't turn at all !
But in fact, the wheel bearing is between the tie rod & the wheel, so the
tie rod, steering lever, etc. cannot disguise slop in the wheel bearing.

But these are tapered bearings, so any failure of the rollers or races IS
going to result in end float.
