We bought a car a few months ago (an 88 jeep actually). Wasn=E2=80=99t runn=
ing or driving, needed some work, battery was dead.
=20
Today we finally got it running and driving using a known good battery from a=
nother car.
=20
Set the jeep=E2=80=99s battery up on a charger a day or two ago and decided t=
o try it in the jeep after all we succeeded in getting it running and drivin=
g.
=20
Hooked up the positive first, then touching the negative caused a spark!!!!
=20
Double checked that we had the ground to the engine and the positive to the e=
lectrical system.
=20
The multimeter, with the red on the positive terminal and the black on the n=
egative, read -9.97
=20
Reversed it and got 9.97.
=20
Checked the good battery =E2=80=93 no, the multimeter is not broken.
=20
Checked the jeep=E2=80=99s old battery again, same results. Good battery =E2=
=80=93 same results (about 12.97)
=20
What is going on???? how is this possible? Yes, we are replacing the batte=
ry but if someone had told me this story I would have told him he must have m=
ixed up the terminals, that its not possible.
=20
Can anyone explain this to me?
=20
And yes, we are replacing the battery
