"Historic" Stock Cars

I've been at the last (first?) two Children's Museum Grand Prix at
Indianopolis Raceway Park with the Historic Stock Cars, and must say
that I find it an interesting change of pace. This is the only race I
attend that these folks are present. For me, the sound of these cars
echoing off of the walls of the front straight is like nothing else - it
makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up! They brought
good, clean, close racing with them, and didn't seem to detract from our
track time. There were some complaints after the first year of folks
running the enduro with them, so the solution seemed to be to eliminate
the enduro. I rather enjoyed running with them in the enduro last year
even though they were considerably faster than the "Uncle Jack" TR-4. I
guess I'm used to there being a VSCDA group for the more recent stuff
that doesn't fit anywhere else (there was even an ex-CART car running at
the VSCDA Fall Festival at Elkhart lake - I thoroughly enjoyed being
passed by him), so consider this to be an extension of that philosophy.
As long as our vintage races aren't taken over by these more recent, but
still obsolete cars, I actually enjoy their presence.

For me, to be passed by a historic stock car is almost as glorious to be
passed by a wide fendered Porsche turbo that vaguely resembles a 911 /
935, or a gorgeous Ferrari 250 Testarossa. The roar of the American V-8
at full song to me matches whoosh of the Porsche, or the shriek of the
Ferrari on my list of favorite sounds.
