Larry,
The HSR rules and 1999 schedule are at: http://www.hsrrace.com. Your
question really boils down to "are the rules enforced", are Datsun
transmissions in the spirit of the rules, and how you feel about the
gentlemanly nature governing vintage racing. The debate about "car guys"
vs. "racers" has been debated to the end without resolution. Some people,
"car guys" take pride in a cars originality, and period correctness.
Others, "racers" want to win and don't care about originality. There seems
to be room for both in HSR.

Here is what the rules say:
Engine
"The engine must be of the same type and material as originally provided
in the year of manufacture. Modern after market heads and blocks are
specifically prohibited. Period type engine modifications are permitted.
In every case the specific engine displacement must be disclosed."

I don't see anything about transmissions. The spirit of the rules would say
you should run what was run in period, but I guess you can run what you
brung if it turns you on.

Vaughn
