Hey Dave,

Basicly what Severin said. I'd add that you should check
with your sanctioning body's rule book. Some have fairly
open tire rules while others specify both the type (bias=
ply Vs. radial) and max size (and specific tire for some
classes). If you are REQUIRED to run biasply, then your
main choices are the Hoosier Street DT and the Goodyear
Bluestreak (AFAIK anyway). Of the two, the Hoosier tested
faster in Grassroots Motorsports a couuple of years ago,
although the Goodyear may last longer. If they allow DOT
radials, then you can choose from a huge number of other
tires from Kumho, Hoosier, Toyo (I love the Toyo RA-1 and
use them on every vehicle I own (except my jeep) as regular
street tires), Yokohama, Avon, etc... Of these the
Hoosiers and Kumhos are the fastest and the Toyos are the
most durable (could last a whole season, I expect to get 2+
years of commuting and general weekend driving out of the
225 50 16 Toyo RA-1s on my daily driver Subaru YMMV).
