When introduced, both the Series III GT and Roadster had twin Zenith
carbs. The GT switched to a single 2bbl Solex around July, 1963. A few
months later the Roadster was switched to a 2bbl Solex as well. The
Zeniths installed on the GT were slightly different than those on the
Roadster. I suspect that the Solexes would also be jetted differently
for the two engines.
Rootes claimed that the switch was made to quiet the underhood din and
that performance was not harmed. I have never seen a side by side
comparison so I can't comment on the performance claim but the Solex was
a lot quieter.
