Firstly, thanks to people who responded a few weeks ago to my
Alpine electrics problem. I believe I've isolated the problem
but before I attempt to fix it I'm looking for confirmation of
my investigations.
The car is a 1962 Series II Sunbeam Alpine. The problem I am
having is a consistent blown fuse.
From information supplied by members of this list and a
wiring diagram I belive the following to be true: there are
two fuses, one switched and one permanent. The permanent is wired
to the cigar lighter. The switched fuse is wired to
(a) the instruments,
(b) the indicators,
(c) the stop light and RH horn,
(d) the LH horn.
In order to find out which of the above was causing the problem
I connected each in turn individually and replaced the fuse as
necessary. I found that (a) (b) and (d) of the above worked fine
and didn't blow a fuse. (c) however when connected caused the fuse
to blow. I then tried (c) connected but with the connection to the
RH horn removed - the fuse still blew. I then tried (c) connected
to the fuse holder but the connection to the stop switch removed.
In this case the fuse didn't blow, neither did it blow with the
stop switch bypassed and the wires joined together (the stop lamps
worked fine).
I assume from all of the above that the problem is caused by
the stop switch - I tried cleaning it and the connections but
this made no difference. As anyone experienced anything similar
and is it possible to remove the stop switch without losing
brake fluid?
Thanks
Dave W.
