Well, since somebody started this, here goes.....
My name is Jon Arzt, I'm a married, 35 year old, certified car nut,
residing in central NJ. A few years ago, I wrote down a list of cars I had
owned.... surprised myself when the list got to 35 cars! The wife, Eileen, is
generally supportive, but has little interest in LBCs. Just as long as I keep
something around that she can drive! My first British car is parked outside..
I've owned my 1966 Series V Alpine for 15 years, and will NEVER sell it!
I've been in auto parts for most of my working years. Moved to the
dealership level 10 years ago, when I got tired of working on weekends! MUCH
more fun to go to car shows & swap meets on weekends!
I now work in the parts department of a VW/SAAB dealer, so a few
non-LBC parts have found their way under my hood.... I'm presently working on
a modification to put a 90 amp VW Bosch alternator in an Alpine. No permanent
changes, everything reversible! Six months, so far, so good in my car, the
only weak link I've discovered is the mount bracket I used. I should have a
servicable tech tip for the list in a few months.( I also have other
projects!)
Such as my 1967 Sunbeam Highwayman - a Commer van that was
coachbuilt in England as a camper, then imported to the US as a Sunbeam. This
one got a new engine this year - much to the dismay of my wallet! My goal is
to get this one to Montana in 1999 for SUNI. Drove to SUNI 1 in my Alpine,
missed SUNI 2 due to family medical concerns, but will NOT miss SUNI 3!
Recently picked up a non-Rootes LBC - my first! - a 1958 MG
Magnette sedan. Couldn't pass on the $300.00 price, and it might have been
crushed if I didn't, so - "honey, look what followed me home!" Very different
experience - all my other LBCs were Alpines , Tigers, or later fastback
Alpines. MG did things a little differently from Rootes!
Mostly, I work at keeping up with my cars, keeping up with our
three dogs, and trying to keep my wife understanding about my cars! " But
hon, we really NEED to get a Humber estate car... you always wanted a station
wagon...."
Enough is enough.... I don't want to ramble! Looking forward to
lots of list action, and hope all your Beams are safe for the holidays! Too
many wackos out there on the roads this time of year! :)
