I have always assembled clutches with the shaft dry - as we all heve.
But I also own a BMW bike, and part of the service ( every 30000miles)
is to separate the box from engine (it has a car type dry clutch) and
lube the clutch/shaft splines. If this is not done, shifting gets
nasty, and the splines die.
We are supposed to use some overpriced BMW grease, but most just use a
thin smear of moly grease.
