I recently refurbished the steering wheel on my Series II car.
The center spline, which is apparently crimped onto the wheel, was loose.
I ended up drilling around the periphery of the center spline and pinning
the spline to the plate. After fixing this I then turned to
reconditioning the rotten column. I used a two part epoxy putty called
Por 15. The stuff was very easy to work with. I mixed it together and
then pressed it into the cracks. I was able to smooth it out with a
little water and then sand it smoother after it had dried. I then painted
the column and used black dye on the rim of the wheel. It looks pretty
sharp (if I say so myself). Hopefully you can fix your wheel and not have
to replace it.
