From the reading I've done the last three months, painted wire wheels
are quite common. Any chroming you want to have done will be fairly
expensive so the best alternative would be to find a set of chromed
wheels to purchase and sell the painted to someone who doesn't care. I
talked to a man who owns a wire wheel shop here in San Jose and he told
me that for a driver he would recommend painted wire wheels over the
chromes. His opinion is the take less work to keep from rusting and
looking good.
