Thanks Tim,
I don't know what SB92 is (a new smog law?) but I wish you luck!
The CD150s are sidedraft SU's aren't they? What sort of manifold do you use?
I can get hold of SU carbs pretty easily here in Oz, but I suspect the
manifold will cost $$$.
You say 'reading on the web'. Is this specific to Alpines and their carbs,
or general Weber vs Stromberg information? Do you have the pointers handy?
I have heard of the 'leaky throttle shaft' problem, but I was under the
impression that the bodies could be 'rebushed'. Perhaps this is so expensive
as to make aftermarket carbs a better proposition.
Cheers,
Paul.
----------
While this is hypothetical seeing as my alpine sits waiting for me to
install my CD150's on it and I sit waiting for SB92 to pass, the reading I
have done on the web seems to indicate that the low end performance is
enhanced by one of the downdraft weber setups while top end performance is
enhanced by dual side draft systems. The fact that your S3 should never
have to go through smog gives you lots of options. I'm sure Jarrid will
give you lots of technical details as to specific carb options, but this
is a start.
I understand the problems withthe zenith carbs is the bushings on the
throttle shafts become worn and there are no replacements.
