Not Alpine related but.... I had a 69 Mustang driving down the freeway when all of a sudden, the engine reved up as if the automatic was thrown into neutral. I looked down and it was still in drive. I had it towed to a Goodyear service center and asked them to check it.......the mechanic checked the trans oil level, ok, got in the car and put it in drive, reved the engine a few times, nothing happend. The manager came back and told me there was something wrong with the transmission, no duh! I asked him if he could put some gauges on it to check the pump pressure. He said that they were not set up to do that kind of service. He did offer to sell me a rebuilt trans for $550.00. I told him no thanks and had it towed home. I pulled the trans out myself and took it to a transmission shop and found out later that the problem was a cracked front pump. I had the whole thing rebuilt for $350.00.

Moral of the story, if there is one, take it to somebody who knows what ther're doing.
