I switched to silicone during my resto. The car's not running yet and
has been sitting for 6 months + since the switch. The brakes work fine
and no leaks. I'll know soon whether or not it'll work well under
running conditions as I will get my engine back from the machine shop
next month.

I think silicone is a good idea only if you are concerned about your
paint. Silicone does reduce corrosion because it doesn't absorb
moisture like regular fluid, but that's about the only other advantage.
I switched only because of my concern for my paint. If you plan to
switch you MUST disassemble and clean all components AND replace the
lines. Replacing the lines was actually pretty easy. I'd never done
anything like it and had fun doing it. I got a great sense of
accomplishment doing it all, including flaring, myself.
