cooling system

A few days ago my wife was trading stories at work with a couple of
women. The first was marvelling at the delicious meal her husband had
prepared the evening before. The second said she came in the house,
could smell something cooking, and looked on the stove to see a bubbling
pot of delicious white chili. My wife then chipped in by saying she came
in the house, saw Rob standing over a bubbling pot on the stove , looked
in it and saw two thermostats from his Alpine. Lucky lady,eh?

Why does my SV overheat on a hot day ? This only happens if the car is
not moving down the road ie,idling in the driveway, stuck in slow
traffic. The radiator has been rebuilt with a 3 row core. The tubes are
spaced 7/16" and there are 14 fins per inch.Did I overdo it on the
density of the core? The thermostat opens at 195 degrees, my wife can
testify to that. Do water pumps loose their efficiancy over time, or do
they simply fail when their time has come? Is overheating
characteristic of Alpines? I would like to solve this before hot weather
returns to Michigan.
