To all, I live in Yuma Az. In the summer it gets hotter here than most
places in the USA. I drive my series 3 everyday. I had the radiator core
replaced with a 4 row high effiecincy radiator core, custom made for me at
Bolsa Rad. in Westminister Ca., for $183.XX bucks. When I put a Sunbeam
engine in a car, if it is used but runs, I pull all of the freeze plugs out,
use a coat hanger and high pressure air and water to get all of the scale
and sand, yes, sand out of the block. I replace the plug with brass ones,
use antifreeze with distilled water.
The only problems that I have had is that I had to replace the thermostat
with higher temps because the car would not run hot enough with a 160, 170,
or 180 degree thermostat! I was shocked so I tested the thermostats on the
stove and my car has never boiled over except for one time when I had a
cracked hose, and my water pump gave out after 8 years.
Re-reading your message brought out one more point that seems to be
addressed by the list right now. Check the impellor on your water pump to
ensure that it is rotating with the shaft and not freely spinning, or not
spinning when the water supplies resistance. This is common with the plastic
impellors. I have thought a good impellor could be made from stainless steel
that would flow enough water to cool yuma itself.

My wife then chipped in by saying she came
>in the house, saw Rob standing over a bubbling pot on the stove , looked in
it and saw two thermostats from his Alpine. Lucky lady,eh?
