Jerome,

Freshly beadblasted rails will probably start rusting almost immediately.

You could call a few local plating shops and see how much it would cost to zinc or
cad plate the rails. I took a look at mine and they appear to be plated with a white
metal, I would guess zinc, but it could be a cadmium plate. You might get lucky and
find a plating company who will toss these in with their next batch.
