Start-up

If all goes well, I should be attempting to start my car this week. I
will be installing the rest of the exhaust after it gets here in Monday
from SS.

All of my electrical problems have been solved. At Jarrid's prompting
I checked the bullet connector at the wiper motor for the green wire
that feeds the wiper, stop switch & horn. It was thought that the wire
had been fried when the wiper motor smoked. As an afterthought, Jarrid
said check the bullet. Sure enough, it was corroded AND cracked.
Replaced it and...presto...stop lights work, horn works.

Need to reinstall the check ball and spring in the oil feed for the
timing chain (thanks, Dick!). Was kind of bummed I had to pull the
timing cover (and everything else) off, but I've done it so many times
now that it's now much easier than I expected.

So, I'm thinking I'll try to start it up on Friday. Does anyone have
any pointers for this? This will be the first time I've ever done
this, so I don't know what to expect. I'm not sure how the timing will
play into ease of start-up. I've got the rotor pointing to number 1 at
its' TDC. The vacuum advance should be set at the 3rd tick mark, I
think. The carbs have been synched as best as possible without a
running engine. The needles have been centered and the jets backed off
1.5 turns from flush.

The car won't be ready to drive, though. Still need to replace the
rear wheel cylinders and rebleed the system. Have no idea if my
rebuilt booster will work after sitting so long. Must replace the
front springs and pull the ball joints for boot replacement (they
cracked after sitting for 8+ yrs, even though new). After that I'll
drive it to Discount Tire to get some Dunlops for my Minators and then
get an alignment.

Hope to have it looking and driving good to make its' debut at Smitty's
May Diversion.

Christopher
