Hey Chris,
I will have to side with Jay on this one.  My experience with contact 
cement is that you get one (and ONLY one) chance to get it properly 
aligned.  Once the two pieces touch, even in a small area, they do not 
separate.  I have only used the solvent based contact cements (not the 
newer water based), and only on horizontal surfaces.  
Someone else recommended wood dowels, I did basically the same thing 
using long strips of wood and newspaper.  I start in the middle, pulling 
the newspaper away and pulling out the wood strips and move out to the 
edges.  There is a small hand held roller that is handy for this kind of 
work.  This would be more difficult on a vertical surface.
