Did you install the ignition wires correctly? # 1 is at approximately 5
o'clock not 2 o'clock. You may think this is a silly question, but I have
been around these cars for more than 25 years and have made this mistake.
Very recently! I am racing a Series II car with a Series III engine and
transmission. (Chrome vale stems, close ratio gear box.) When I put it all
together and tried to start it I had the very problem you describe. I pulled
my hair out for a couple hours and then walked away. When I came back I
started from scratch verifying everything. I could have kicked myself when I
realized what I had done. The way I was sure is I turned the engine to top
dead center, looked for the intake valve on number four to be open and set
the wires to the cap using number one where the rotor was pointing and
followed the firing order, 1,3,4,2. I am still embarrassed.
Let me know,
Eric Funk
