The Frustration Continues

Hi All,

Well after spending an entire weekend trying to get my Alpine started for
the first time I decided to punt. I had it put on a flatbed and brought to a
local shop with a good reputation for knowing British cars. I hated doing
this but I am on the road for my job almost continuously and I have reached
the point where I JUST WANT TO DRIVE THE DAMNED THING! That was two weeks
ago. I finally heard back from them today. Great news...I have the wrong
cam. It will fire on 1 and 4 and blows out through the carbs on 2 and 3.
Even better news...That will be $500.00 please. Now I am out the $500, my
car still won't run and I have to find the correct cam. Oh yeah I forgot,
they fried my Pertronics ignition system when they tried to hook up the
"rest of my electronic ignition system". They thought the Pertronics needed
a controller so they tried to connect a unit out of another car to my
Pertronics so I am back to points and condenser.

So here's the deal, it's a Series III with a Series V Holbay head. Did they
change the valve order between the III and the V or did Schneider screw up
grinding the cam? If they changed the valve order am I going to be OK if I
put a Series V cam in or do I have to bag the Holbay head and sink even more
money into rebuilding me S III head.

The other option of course is to sell the whole pile of crap in the garage
and buy the BMW M3 that I have been drooling over. :)

Thanks,
Kurt
