I've start work on my 1725 engine.   The guy doing the short block work and 
helping with the head work races Datsun 1200 GT-5 and has helped me with my 
previous race engines.   I have lighten the rods and crank, knifed the crank, 
bored to 50 over using flat top pistons, he's and another friend are looking 
at the cam spec and may use the one in the alpine performance book.   I've 
polished the manifold.  I've done the initial work on porting the head, my 
Datsun friend is going to flow test and do the finish work.   I'm using stock 
valves and looking into stiffer valve springs.   The flywheel is going down 
to 17 pounds for street use.  The goal is to get about 130 hp out of the 
engine using the using stock carb configuration.  We used SU's on a Volvo 
p1800 and had extremely good performance with them.  Better than the fuel 
injection.  So we think the Strombergs will work ok.   I've polished and 
clean up the castings in the carbs.   I won't know until March what the 
results of all this is, and as I work my way through this I'll pass on 
thoughts and ideas we come up with.  No quarentees that we'll gain anything 
but it the principle of the thing
