I've start work on my 1725 engine. The guy doing the short block work and
helping with the head work races Datsun 1200 GT-5 and has helped me with my
previous race engines. I have lighten the rods and crank, knifed the crank,
bored to 50 over using flat top pistons, he's and another friend are looking
at the cam spec and may use the one in the alpine performance book. I've
polished the manifold. I've done the initial work on porting the head, my
Datsun friend is going to flow test and do the finish work. I'm using stock
valves and looking into stiffer valve springs. The flywheel is going down
to 17 pounds for street use. The goal is to get about 130 hp out of the
engine using the using stock carb configuration. We used SU's on a Volvo
p1800 and had extremely good performance with them. Better than the fuel
injection. So we think the Strombergs will work ok. I've polished and
clean up the castings in the carbs. I won't know until March what the
results of all this is, and as I work my way through this I'll pass on
thoughts and ideas we come up with. No quarentees that we'll gain anything
but it the principle of the thing
