My reply may not be detailed enuf for what you want, but the first thing I
would do is run a compression test, and more importantly a vacuum test.
Every problem with an engine I ever had was diagnosable with a vacuum gauge.
This should point out or hint towards worn lobes. Though the few times I
have seen cars with worn lobes, they were so worn that it was easily seen
thru the lifter gallery. Hope this is not the case for you. Good Luck
