The bulk of the time (and hence expense) of a paint job is the  
bodywork and prep, so you may be on to something.  Strip the car of  
it's trim,  strip the paint, or scuff it up if it's still decent, fix  
your dents, prime, block it out, ant trailer it to the Canadian  
equivalent of Maaco or Earl Scheib.  A ton of work, but you'd get a  
workmanlike color coat for a few hundred bucks, 'cause you've done  
most of the hard stuff.  Check to see if there's a paint  outfit that  
will work with you in that regard before embarking on what will be an  
epic journey :^)  Just a thought...
