Yes, the Mark 3 has the same swing axle set-up. The "swing-spring" didn't come
in until the Mark IV.

Cable set-up sounds neat. Got pictures?

However, the de-arched springs sold by Mother Mueller did the same thing and
it was just the spring - simplicity itself.

CAMBER COMPENSATOR!

Here I'm going to show my ignorance -- I'm a Mk. I guy, Paul's building a
Mk. III. Is it the same swing-axle rear?

If so, then YES, he must address it.

And that under-spring thingy Triumph sold back in the '60s -- NO WAY!
Terrible unit. Worked fine until it broke -- and that was when it egg-shaped
the bolt hole in the bottom of the diff (where it mounts) and let all the
diff fluid drain out. Sudden stop when the diff seized! Not fun.

Mine is a very simple cable and pulley setup I've had on the car for nearly
30 years now. Pulleys affixed to the top shock mount*. Cable ties to a lower
shock mount, runs up through the pulley, across (alongside the spring) to
the other pulley and back down again. It basically pulls the whole axle
setup up (Spitfire gets a wedgie). Simple and virtually no-maintenance. (*
1/4-inch Grade 8 shouldered bolt drilled into the larger bolthead there --
bolt shoulder becomes the pulley hub. Pulley must have a guard so the cable
does not jump off of it.)
