Sorry for being slow on the draw... Just catching up on email after a trip
to visit the folks.

How do these do?

First time seeing 100mph on a speedo in my friend's '67 MGB-GT (front
radials, rear bias ply.. Quite nervous all ways around!!!)

First time seeing 100 mph on a speedo when driving my girlfriends father's
'79 Mazda RX-7, before the front end wander had been corrected.. :D

Watching the flames on overun on the 935s at Pocono in the early 80s.

Cheering on the Tullius Group 44 Jags at Pocono in the early 80s
Cheering on the Holbert 962s at Pocono in the early 80s
Cheering for Chip Robinson (friend of my brothers) in the Nissan GTPs at
various tracks in the late 80s/early 90s

Seeing the carbon fiber brake discs on the GTP cars glow in the infield at
Daytona 1991

The smell of the brakes in the infield at Daytona.

Looking over the banking onto the track 10 feet below at Daytona 1991 at 2
am in the morning

Watching the exhausts glow on the Brumos Porches at Daytona at 1 am in the
morning

The sound of the Mazda triple rotor GTP car at Watkins Glen.

Taking turn one at TWS at over 100mph for the first time without soiling a
borrowed drivers suit (thanks Ed!!)

Looping my Spitfire in the rain and continuing at an autocross.

Beating that d*mn faux Bugeye wannabe at the national tour

Zippo Vintage Grand Prix Watkins Glen 1999

And a few other memories.

Cheers,

Jim

Okay, here's a New Year's challenge (not open to you guys who cheat and
live in warmer climes). A friend just reminded me of something he smelled
and will never forget. I challenge you all to ONE LINER car memories. Like
these:

The smell of Castrol R in the exhaust (Thanks, Jim Hill)

The first time I heard a 12 cyl Ferrari wind out on a straight. Ripping
canvas?

Stepping on the brakes in a Formula Ford -- Wow! That's how brakes are
supposed to be!

The first time I hung the rear end out (Model A Ford, dirt road
wouldyabelieve)
