We paid about $500 for the aluminum racing jack we have (referenced earlier
by Henry), and we are very pleased with it. We have had it for several years
now and use it at the track and in the shop. When we bought it, the 'cheapies'
referred to now were not on the market yet. In fact at the time, the one we
bought was 'an economical version' of the $1,300-$1,500 NASCAR jacks folks
lusted after. We, of course, were interested in low pickup point, fast, but
controllable action, and light weight (Don, Bob, and I are in our early 80s).
In our masonry business we use hydraulic jack 'splitters' to cut stone.
They've been on the market for decades. Good ones were available in the $2,500
to
$4,000 range. Recently look alike oriental splitters have come on the market
in the $1,800 range. They look alike, but there is no comparison. They are
pretty much junk.
Buyer beware.
