I don't want to belabor this but there is an important point(at least to me)to
be made.The car ran 148 MPH and did not meet general safety requirements such as
page 14 of the rules which clearly state that "All closed cars between 125 and
150 MPH must have a 4 point rollbar." or page 20 which states"all cars with
automatic or planetary type transmissions shall be equipped with a ballistic
transmission blanket of approved metal shield meeting SFI 4.1 certification." or
alternately "all cars over 125 MPH ,including rear engined cars with
non-automatic transmissions, must be equipped with a 360 degree 1/4 " steel
clutch shield." If a car is illegal for class racing,it should be running "time
only". Why this is germain to "trying to get more(new and/ or younger) people
involved in the sport(with quality equipment)" as you mention below ,is because
those people expect an organization to live by it 's rules.As soon as they find
out they really didn't have to go by the book in car construction and other
competitors can run whatever they want in your class they're not going to be
very happy or likely to recommend it to their friends.As you know,I really don't
care about that particular record-some one would have gotten it soon
anyway.Mostly I run for fun -but I do adhere to the rules and expect potential
competitors to also.I'm not taking a shot at anyone here just pointing out an
incosistency.Whew must have been the hot sauce at lunch!
