Doug,

Bobby would have been back on the salt the following year if his schedule
had permitted it. I saw him at SEMA three years ago and he spent twenty
minutes telling favorite salt stories. His intent is to came back just as a
spectator to get to know the people involved better. He had a great time
and was particularly complementary about Monte Widdison, USFRA starter. He
came to the line on his second run and Monte went through his usual pre-run
checks. When he came to the seat belt, Bobby assured him that "His People"
had properly fastened him in. Monte told him he wanted to put his own mind
at ease and tugged ... the belts popped open! Bobby's eyes looked like
saucers. Never questioned Monte after that.
Meador's flight was delayed and he missed the connections to spend one day
at Speed Week last year but he had intended to be there with Ed Hegarty. Ed
and Dave Dozier kept looking for him to show.
