Hi Rick, the short answer is an XF is a Ford Flathead V8 which has
inherent gasflow and power limitations due to the porting and
side-valves.  An XO is generally a GMC OHV Six which has more favorable
gasflow and more natural power potential, fuel for fuel, etc.  That's
why they were put in different classes.
