Why not? I had one on the Merk from day one.
I don't see any reason to not use devices like that that can turn fuel off
in case of an impact. Same thing for rollover switches. The new car will
still that "old" technology. As Barrett said, It's my fat ass sitting in
there, and I want to enjoy retirement for about another 40 years.
Specifically, I now use a weldon pump that is supplied current from a
constant duty solenoid. An 8 gage wire from the solenoid and #4 cable
supplies current to it. A simple wire in series with these devices and the
on/off switch picks the ground of the solenoid coil and viola..... There is
some cost and complexity, but this time safety comes cheap. For now I just
don't know where to package all this "stuff" I never thought a 212"
wheelbase car would be "small". I think I have changed location of the fuel
pump 5 times while mocking up the engine bay.
I'm spending more, and working harder than I have for a long long time, and,
I think I'm actually enjoying it.
Looking forward to seeing some of you at PRI. I will be there with
Precision Gear. Not working, just a guest.

Rick
