I opened this can of worms on purpose. Hoping to get some better
qualified people than me to respond with ideas and suggestions. Perhaps this
is the most realistic way for any of us to get some REAL Aero numbers
(moving ground plane and all). Although the wind tunnel deal is OK, if it
ain't a full size tunnel it ain't gonna give satisfactory results for the
majority of us. At least that's what I have learned so far from our
discussions. And I can't afford the $15,000 a day to rent a full size
tunnel, and don't think I can build a sufficiently accurate 1/4, 1/8, 1/16
scale size model to put in a scale tunnel. So.
Is it possible to get some universal equipment that can be easily
swapped from vehicle to vehicle? Some extra wire would get the lights
further apart. Wonder if we would need an extra set of lights (four pairs
total) to get a true entry and exit speed with a given distance in-between
(660'??). How about a computer program (Excel??) to do the math quickly? How
about a wide angel video camera with yarn taped in strategic areas to film?
I know there has got to be more to this so what other suggestions/ideas have
you all got?
If there were enough people interested to share expenses I bet we could
organize an AERO TEST DAY.
