Mike this isn't a direct answer to your question... mostly because I don't
have the experience your looking for...  but here's my take on the
situation.
In all things answers are never as important as asking the right question
which then in turn sends us down the road in search of the answers... your
question here is exactly the same as mine... " what the heck is going on
with the car at speed ... and I mean exactly what's going on "

As we start to get into sustained high speed driving there are aerodynamic
forces on the car which affect many things...  Obviously the Hp required has
always been a limiting factor in the past... that is the one thing with the
advent of Turbo's that we have radically changed...  So now we are taking
cars faster then the previous limitations allowed...   Understanding the
aero loads on the car and they effect they are having on the total body of
the car is going to be extreamly critical in maintaining a safe racing
program.

Dave and I have been working on coming up with the tools nessesary to
actually know what we are doing as the car increases in speed over the next
couple of years...

I'll cover what our options are in the part two here.
