Have you tried fitting some 15" wheel/tires on your Vette just
to see how it sits? It's an easy way to get it lower.... I
haven't tried putting 15's on a C5, but C4's came with 17"
WIDE tires, and I replaced them with 15" wheels. Naturally, I
had to have them made, I too had to fight caliper clearance
and backspace issues. I had one advantage - I had a "donut"
spare tire (4" wide") to help me come up with specs to give
the wheel builder. Since the C5 doesn't have a spare, oh
well..... The earlier C4 "donut" might fit a C5, it would be
worth laying one up just to see what it looks like. If 15"
works, your tire selection problems are pretty much solved. As
for the aero.. Good luck. Nobody has ever gone that fast in a
C5, so the downforce/weight learning curve will be fun. The
C5R's have that big wing on them for a reason..... The C6's
have supposedly solved the rear-end lift problem by
re-designing the rear - We'll have to see. At least they are
not limited to 175 mph (by gearing) like the C5's. Please
keep us up to date with your project - us Corvette guys have
to stick together against the Roadster guys and bikers ;-) And
BTW, Keith is just a "poser" Corvette guy. He thinks that
shiny red convertible give him title to the road! ('Course in
Alabama, it might)
