Lew Welch, owner/sponsor of the Novi effort 1941-1960 named the operation
after the town of Novi, Michigan site of his auto parts factory.
Reference: George Peters/Henri Greuter, "Novi the Legendary Indianapolis
Race Car, Volume 1; The Welch Years 1941-1960" Bar Jean Enterprises,
Hazelwood, MO 63042 1991.
Pretty definitive research on the subject. Check out pages 44-47 "An Assault
on the Salt Flats" about their Aug 1947 effort resulting in a 179.43 mph
international class D record breaking average on a circular course.
If I win please send picture of sock proof holes.
