In the fifties, the TP was even worse; the worst being "bahnhof toilet
paper". There were two types, one with the consistency of sandpaper and
the other had the absorbency of aluminum foil.

A few non-essential comments on this thread;
A. Not all Chopstick using countries use a new pair every time, many are

mandating re-use.
B. Better to use the NY Times/Wash Post for TP the first time, reading
them  
is a powerful cathartic.
C. When I was stationed in Germany in US Army in 65/67, I had occasion
to  
use Bathroom of relatives. The toilet paper had the consistency of waxed
paper  
and I almost dislocated my shoulder the first attempt at use.
D, Not all "Hemp" has sufficient quantities of THC, the active
ingredient  in 
HIGH to be classified as a controlled substance.
E.None of the above
