My TD came with a T or + shaped bracket which clamped to the upper lip
of the front bumper. The upper part of the + was curved over to hook
the plate under. The cross of the + was sloted to allow plates with
different spacings. AFAIK it came that way when sold new. The car was
purchased new somewhere in the Puget Sound area.
