As all have said before, prime that pump with an electric drill. I made
a tool from a piece of  5/8" steel rod, ground one end down to fit a
3/8" drill chuck, did it free hand as speed is low, would have been
nicer on a lathe. On the otner end, I cut away the sides, leaving a fat
screwdriver to go into the end of the oil pump drive. |I think on a
Rover oil pump, you cut a wide slot because the fat screwdriver is the
end of the oil pump drive. Don't you just get off on all these tech
terms?  Add about 2" of hose to the end of your home made drive to keep
it from slipping off the oil pump. letting 1" extend beyond the steel
rod.

I admit that I had an unfair advantage in starting my engine, I had a
carb I had been using on the old engine. It was in good tune, with the
mixture & idle already set. All I did was turn up the idle screw to get
2000 rpm. I lined up the timing marks at 5` instead of top dead center,
but TDC might make an easy start, don't know. 10` is where my engine
should be set, I thought less initial advance the first time was a good
idea.

Garden hose is a good trick. I relied on the 16" puller on the car, & it
got me 20 minutes, but that was all. Car runs nice & cool with 1200
miles on it, but break-ins tend to run hot.
