Most of the pre-catalyst MGs and other LBCs are spec'ed to have their timing
set by the static method, which is simple and well explained in the Bentley
manual as well as in the factory owners manual. Some of the aftermarket shop
manuals _ACTUALLY_ have been known to give information that is inaccurate, so
not only did you perhaps have the timing set wrong, but it may have also been
set "right" to a wrong number.
Use the Bentley or Haynes manuals, if it says Chilton give it the deep-6.
Also there may be more to this then just timing, may I suggest the car be
given a complete tuning,, that's setting _Everything_ by the book, valves,
plugs, points, etc!
