thing the second: the commute has been **horrendous** lately, and I almost
got into an accident yesterday in the B (cars behind me plowed into each
other and it chain-reacted up to about a quarter of an inch short of my rear
bumper). I saw it all in my rear view mirror, in a state of helpless
pannic. Traffic is severely stop-n-go on my urban interstate commute and I
don't even get to use OD. Surface streets are washboards here in
Deeeetroit. Has the world spun off its axis?

Seriously: What does a car guy do when its no fun to drive !!??

Will - Been there, done that. Then one day I realized it wasn't the traffic's
fault, or even the HAPE drivers, it was my decision to participate, and it was
making me hate driving. So I picked up my sticks and got out of it. When I
moved here there wasn' a traffic lite, no McDonalds, and you bought gas before
9:00pm or waited till morning. Income was a problem for a while but that seemed
less important than watching my daughter trip over the curb the first time she
really noticed the stars at night.

My present commute is 6 minutes but I find myself making excuses to drive for
the fun of it, and we do still have some uncrowded roads nearby.

But last year I rode a Navy destroyer from Pearl Harbor to San Diego and from
1000 miles at sea realized light pollution has overtaken me again. And I can't
find any real value in any of the "community developments" that make them worth
tolerating the loss of the little dipper.

Lucia and I are driving to Potlatch Idaho later this summer, maybe ......
