Larry,
        Thanks for the hard numbers.  I'm kind of leaning towards a bum 
relief valve spring as the cause of the low oil pressure.  The fact 
that my oil pressure was 55 psi everywhere from idle to 4200 rpm 
leads me to believe that the pump was doing its job, and that the 
relief valve was opening too soon, keeping pressure down at a 
constant 55 psi.
        Are there parts to the relief valve assembly that wouldn't have been 
included with the purchase of the new uprated spring?  The reason 
I'm wondering is that my old stock one seemed to be relieving at 55 
psi also.  Perhaps a related part is keeping the new uprated spring 
from working properly.  
        I'm going to ask him to take any machining work to a different shop 
this time, even if it costs me out-of-pocket.  The machine shop that 
did this work messed up on the crank once (too tight), and I'm afraid 
they may have overcompensated the second time.
