Mike:  Enjoy the spectrum of enjoyment, even if it is only 5 minutes in an
awake state.  My experience with a 17 year old is that they grow in to the
experience!  Adam is enjoying the experience (just learning to drive a
standard shifter - my 1960 MGA 1600 roadster) and I have to admit, he is
the envy of all his friends and a gaggle of recent female friends (and
doing just great driving I have to admit).  Terri and I enjoy our trips
(we feel we have earned them) so try and keep everything in perspective. 
Your children will have many years to enjoy the car.  In the meantime, get
out with your significant other and enjoy your MGA!!!!!!
