The following is a list of defunct/existing British Marques of Any
Consequence.  It is impossible to have a definitive list all car names ever.
This is all I can think of/find out about.  If you can think of any more
defunct/existing marques of any consequence, please mention them.  Note:
Plastic bodied creations from backyard garages are not particularly important.
If we were ever to get into listing just 1960's kit car makers we'd be
threading forever...

Aston-Martin 1922-1987-Present... sold to Ford
AC 1908-1985-1992-Present... sold to Ford then back to Brits in 1992

The Rootes Group-
Talbot 1902-1954, but back again for a few years in 1980's.
Sunbeam 1899-1967-Sold to Chrysler then to French
Singer 1905-1967- Sold to Chrysler then to French
Humber 1898-1967- Sold to Chrysler then to French
Hillman 1907-1967- Destroyed by, I mean sold to Chrysler then to French

The Usual Suspects, Nuffield, BMC, BLMC, BL, Austin-Morris, JRT, Rover Group,
BMW/Rover, etc...

Lanchester 1896-1955 (merged with Daimler)
Daimler 1896-1948-1989-Present (merged with Jaguar, sold to Ford)
Jaguar/SS 1931-1989 (Have you driven a V-12 Ford lately?)
Vanden Plas 1913-1980
Austin 1905-1987
Healey 1946-1971
Riley 1898-1969
Wolseley 1896-1975
