Hmmm.  Good point.  Sort of.  You're talking about old cars vs. new cars. 
In 1970 or 1980, for the price of a _new_ MGB, perhaps you could get an
MGA, a TC, and an older Healey.  The way I see it, for the price of a
boring, generic 1998 car, you can get several really nice old cars, so if
you want a big luxury car, a little sports car, a pickup truck, et al. you
can have them all, just by buying old instead of new.  Of course
_somebody_ has to have bought the new cars at some point or we wouldn't
have these old cars to buy.
